more sightings
this is the official: unannounced big teams skate raleigh month.

id heard the habitat team was in town the past couple of days filming for their new video. tonight they showed up at project 58 close to closing. kerry getz killed the park as did that dude silas. tim o connor was steady cruising. the filmers were even shredding it up. photographer allen ying was shralping too.

connor informed me kerry getz kickflipped over the chain at the chapel hill bump. that shits big!

spot check
the east millbrook gap over the rail into the bank has seen some heavy hitting. tonight the osiris team was in town and here are the tricks that went down.

dude with dreds: buttery nollie flip, close call on a variel heel flip
james brockman: switch backside 180
momolu: close call on switch shove it
marius: close call on frontside shove it, the generator ran outta gas

christian yapez came close on a backside 180 kickflip.

so heres the run down of bangers done so far:

dan murphy: switch 180, switch fs flip
jbrock: hippie jump
brett abramsky: pop shove it
alex from girl: 5050 the rail pop into the bank

and that one dude from va who nearly ollied the double set.

i might have left some tricks out. but yea. good stuff.

back from san francisco
been kicking it at ex chapel hill now oakland native alex turans case the past week. everyday id wake up at 7:30 and catch the bart train to anywhere. skated for hours upon hours in sf and oakland, just all around. my camera never made it out of my bag. it was fun exploring the city. met a dude named mike who chugged liquor at 9 in the morning and could do crazy boneless combinations off curbs. dat dude was nuts.

on my last day out there i went to alex's work and watched him design some board graphics and ads. he works at dlx. that place is the heat. gonz has a huge mural they are gonna sledgehammer to pieces in a couple of weeks. the bathrooms are a crazed out painted/graffiti chaos. warehouse dudes straight chillen and the art department had books on everything. i like what they got going on over there. biggs, darin, jim, that girl from gboro, word up.

back in raleight now. robert clark was ripping p58 this morning. thats all i gotta say for now. skate skate skate skate skate!

ahoy
I'm posting this from the public library down the street from my house. One thing I noticed the orange background on the Yo is really really bright and hard to read. The internet at my house is down so I can't change the site around right now.

One good thing about the internet being down at my house is that I have gone through a stack of 12 tapes that have been sitting around.

I've made good progress on the next SkateNC video, oOhLaLa.

So far here is what is lined up:

- A guide to lighting up a spot at NC State and dealing with cops with Daniel Roberts, Luke Broussard, Mark Thompson, Sturgil Horn, Steven Alligood, and Nate Weston

- "All the Leaves are Brown" - ever spent 2 hours skating a pile of leaves? This footage is priceless. Featuring the Ruckus crew, Luke Broussard, and many more

- Riverfest 2005 contest photos / doubleset session
Footy from the roof, footy from the ground, girls handling guys boards, screams all around

- Construction site fun: tips and advice on how to find something new to skate

Thats all for now. I'm still searching for Scotty Moore and Brett Abramsky's day in the life. and I have recently found the tape for the Edit Demo at Delicious skateboard park.

I'm trying new things out with this video. Throwing in some commentary and story telling to go along with it. Also some real original music.

Of course there will be a premiere at Project 58 in the future.

Thats all for now. It's nice outside and its spring!

going going back back
I am headed back out to SF at the end of April. Got a court date to take care of. Was gonna skip it at first then I found out its not so easy to get a passport when you have a warrant out for your arrest.

Steven Alligood, Domination Josh and I went out and explored this dope closed down factory yesterday. We climbed a ladder 3 stories underground then climbed a ladder 4 stories up to the top of an old smoke stack. Afterwords we crept into the old factory and it felt like I was in hell. The place was so run down but it was actually skateable. I got footage and photos and we are planning a return visit.

I've had a good response to the concept of a SkateNC book. I'll be releasing a DVD to go along with it too. When? No date will be set. Just in the future.

Alrite. Gotta go drink some wine with my girl. No beer you say? No liquor? Wine? Hey... gotta do what you gotta do.

the good ole days
the internet has come a long way when full length videos load on a dime.

ladies and gentleman... somebody has finally put carolina love on the internet.

Posted on 24 Mar 2006 by travis
they say
a man went to san francisco. took a lonely plane ride there. in the company of others however. a silent military fellow talking in the back. he said he went to philadelphia.

i asked him: "did you see love park?"

the old man replied: "love park? the circle place?"

"yes. the circular place. its a dope skateboarding spot"

nobody seemed to notice. solen looks on their faces. going for a tale i say?

the ear was sore , the right one foresake. it sweltered with pain. like it was about to pop. was it aliens high in the sky messing with me since i sat near the window? aliens you say. a joke. haha. yea. whatever. a small town myth. flying obstacles beaming down at you. only to have bird poo send them to their deaths.

anyways i am rambling now. it was raining upon arrival to the city. so i joiced around in the train that surrounded the airport. talk to a few people who were as confused as i was about the airport.

thats one thing for certain. many people feel lost at the airport. like: "how and why am i here in this unknown city?"

the airport was international. many chinese pals walked amongst. they were the only terminal with internet access. which was stuck on one home page but thanks to google it was all access.

i tried blogging it. and go through. no worries. it only crashed when i was checking my email.

my homies flight was 3 hours behind me. so i explored the airport was top to bottom. helped a family with their bags because they seemed to have taken too many to handle. they were thankful for the help and made it to the elevator.

the airport was huge. very amazing. i didn't realize there was so much. skating on the rolling ways are fun. so is sitting down on esclatators. why not?

next time your at the mall sit down on the escalator. its fun.

thats where ill leave it. i read on some website that people don't read online. however i know thats untrue.

nate has some stenciling skills. i ain't joking. just wait.

the first from sf

back in raleigh
somehow i managed to wake up on time for my flight outta sf yesterday. it was an interesting st pattys day. i started off by checking out "piece by piece" and then grabbing a milwaukees beast on the way back. i hauled ass in and out of traffic on haight street and got a turbo boost on my board by holding onto the back of a bus.

i made it back to biggs spot where everyone was chillen. we headed out to a 4 story bar where a homie was valeting cars. we all crept in through the side door past security. ritzy upscale multi level bars are interesting. especially when the dj is blasting crazy dance music but nobodys feeling it. the rooftop was the spot. i seen luke drop $12 on one of the best tasting minty beers.

it was nearing 2:00am and i had to catch my flight at 8:30am so i walked back too biggs house.

i knew id be woken up eventually by banging on the window since the door always remained locked and i had been handed the only key to get into the house.

around 3 levi knocks on the window and i unlock door and wearily walk back to bed. i could hear the rustling of people outside the door so i had no idea just who was going to be venturing into the house.

levi walks in and in the nicest and most polite tone he asks me:

"hey travis... sturgil and i met some girls and were trying to get some booty tonight... is that cool?"

for a moment i was going to give up my spot on the bed for their sake but i decided against that.

"whatever you wanna do" was my reply to levi.

i somehow managed to catch some sleep before sturgil walks in and says:
"Travis! wake up! i got a girl for ya!!!"

a girl for me? i don't need no girl in sf. i got mine back in raleigh. i was curious as to who sturgil and levi had brought home.

sturgils girl was kicking it but seemed outta it. levi was sleeping on the floor int rue player fashion between 2 girls.

after scoping out their nights catch i ended up eating the rest of my 2 day old burrito before i ventured back into bed. about half an hour later sturgil is above me asking if its cool if he can pass out on the bed too since his girl had taken over the couch and wasn't budging.

yea... thats cool.

the next thing i know theres a warm body next to me and too close for comfort. i didn't know why in the world sturgil would want to sleep so close to me.

so i got up outta bed only to realize it was sturgils girl on the bed. i asked her if she was ok and she muttered:

"this is low. drinking.... no. no drinking. never again."

suddenly she put her hand over her mouth and started gagging.

"Sturgil!!! Get over here!"

turns out she didn't get any puke on the bed. just on the floor. sturgil cleaned it up and took his girl back to the couch.

the bed was mine again.

i think i got another hour of sleep before luke stumbled into the house. he couldn't believe the sight. the house was trashed... sturgil and levi were comfortably settled next to girls and all i had to say was: "i gotta leave in an hour"

luke turned around and walked back out the door.

a good half an hour passed before luke walked back in the door and crashed out on the other side of the bed.

i asked him where he went and he said he woke up in the bushes.

i tried going back to sleep but couldn't. it was even harder when luke fell asleep before me and his natural alarm clock went off.

luke and frank gerwer have a lot in common. now imagine sleeping a foot from what they have in common and imagine that thing in common screaming uncontrollably... "snoreZzZZzzZZzzz"

now i see why my girl gets upset when i sleep with a stuffed up nose.

it was now 5:50 am.

my alarm had been set for 6:15 but i decided to get up out of bed, grab my stuff and trek down the street to the bart station.

now im back in raleigh where i can go through the massive amount of footy and photos we got on the trip.

im pretty sure luke and levi will be posting a good amount of stuff on ghettovegas

id like to start working on a new video so you may or may not see the photos and footy i got here on the web.

yep. san francisco. its a fun place. pretty wild. but very very fun. get a group of friends together and go explore that place.

i guarantee you will have a great time. even if you do get tackled by police on your 2nd day there.

Bummer rific. I'm at the International part of the airport now. Found an internet connection so I had to nerd out for a second.

all i gotta say is... YEEHAW!

i spend a lot of time at this website.

exhausted but about to hit the road
even with only 4 hours of sleep i made it to the raleigh tv network orientation on time. there were a lot of people there with interests of getting their own tv time slot. i filled out my paperwork, toured the studios and labs and then headed back home to skate.

ended up going to the yellow rail today. i enjoyed walking the train tracks and squashing my first pennies with nate more than i did the rail. it was fun squashing a penny. nate and i had to duck our heads under a moving train really really quick and lay it ont he track then hop out before the next set of wheels came. luckily the train wasn't going too fast.

i've always wanted to skate on top of a train but usually the tops of em are too rough.

this one was a little bumpy but skateable.

did an ollie and i was happy.

thanks nate for snapping them photos.

still here
my girlfriend, laurel has wanted me to help her mess up some of her clothes for a while. well we finally did something about it tonight and had a great time getting our hands covered in pink paint.

i've wanted to get a slot on raleighs public access channel for a long time now. theres a meeting in a few hours i am hoping i wake up for and make it on time too.

if you have some time i suggest you check this out:

the hotel
i heard people are still skating this spot as they tear it down to build some massive building...

here brandon fonville wallrides over the leg monster

if you want some advice to where this spot is head on over to crabtree valley mall. just know there is a fence around it with barbwire but i heard rats chewed away at it.

oh yea... you will be trespassing so don't go in there.

also don't have fun exploring all the different levels.

also know you might die if you go into this place now because its probably mega sketchy since they are tearing it down.

don't say i didn't warn ya.

ahoy mates
so ive got a bunch of photos i never post because they don't particularily pertain to the act of skateboarding... but usually the photos are of the homies goofing off so thats good enough.

this is my new photo and random writing blog shit for all those of you who come to skatenc in search of something inspiring, entertaining, or just downright whateverness.

ill slowly be given a few friends there own little pages. for now...

on the way to the fusion contest... i think rock and roll was playing

then we switched the am/fm to 97.5 and thugged it out to some lil john, 50 cent, or whatever ish was playing.
